Loss of jobs in IT sector is NOT due to automation and LESS due to new US H1B rules. It is due to slowdown in Indian and also global economy, and also that India's colleges didnt improve at the rate of global colleges (US, UK, China, Vietnam etc)',
.
Automation NEVER reduces jobs in IT. It may reduce jobs in manufacturing in short run, but not in IT. In fact, as automation increase, industry needs more and more IT workers.
.
In India, the non-IT companies' profits are shrinking for many right / wrong reasons. The notebandi precipitated and worsened the crisis, but even without notebandi, this slowdown could have come, Primary reason why India's non-IT companies are slowing down is because their abililty to compete against world is reducing. So their profits are shrinking, And so their ability to give contracts to IT companies is also going down. And so IT companies are getting lesser and lesser contracts
,
Same is happening across world.
.
Now another factor is that China, Vietnam, USA, UK etc have massively improved their IT skills. USA was #1 in IT skills, and now it has massively increased. And so has China, Vietnam etc. Quality of IT education in India has NOT improved (and even worsened to a considerable extent). And so now other countries are having an edge over.
.
eg consider what I hear from Gujarat Technical University students. They say that if you rote answers of questions of past 5 to 10 years examination question papers, then you can easily get 50% marks which is well above passing marks of 35% !!! This is quality of BE !!! And quality of BCA is much worse. WHY?
.
The GTU professors unofficially say that maths science level in students is so poor in class-XII that there is no way to teach engineeing to most students !!! So they just want to pass them !!
.
So why is maths science level in engineering students so low?
.
In Gujarat I hear that in the class-XII science maths examination paper , some 50% questions are taken from the textbook !!! So if one rote answers, he easily get 50% score,. In maths, NOT even one question should come from textbook or well used guides. And if so many questions comes from textbooks, then level of students will fall.
.
So why are question paper makers putting such easy questions in exams?.
.
As per them, if the level of students in class-X is so poor, that there is no way to teach them in class-XI and class-XII. So they just want to pass them.
.
So why is level in class-X poor? Because education ministers of union govt and state govts have printed law that schools MUST pass students till class-VIII !!! Even if the student leave answersheet blank, the teacher must pass him !!! So teachers dont want to teach and students dont want to bother themselves with studies
.
Suffices to say --- Ministers, IAS etc have worked very hard to ruin maths / science education in India since 1990s !!!
.
In contrast, many countries such as USA, UK, China etc did NOT let their colleges rot to such an extent. So now their companies have better staff.
.
The IT requirement is NOT shrinking. There are 1000s and 1000s of problems in India in govt and private companies where IT can be applied to reduce problems of today. Traffic control, crime detection, reducing delays in administration, reducing delay in courts, improving record keeping across govt and private organizations, improving land ownership records and so on and on and on and on. There are 1000s of applications which can be built using EXISTING IT technology and will be cost effective. But there is searious shortage of skills at top level as well as bottom levels. Thats because Indian govt and apex private compabies work more by wheling dealing, than real work. And so talent since 1950s has preferred to leave India. And college owners dont want to "waste" time in giving good trainning
.
The biggest reason why colleges are rotting is due to corruption in Education Ministers in Union and State Govts, and corruption in University Vice Chancellors, and corruption in apex bodies ile AITEC etc. Due to rampant corruption, talented private tuition class owners are NOT interested in starting colleges !!!
.
So finally, SOLUTION?
.
As always, I will suggest with reducing corruption and ineffieicncies in Govt by bring RTR / Jury at all levels in all departments. Wrt IT, RTR education minister and RTR Univ Vice Chancellors are urgently needed to improve IT education and retrainning.. And RTR / Jury in other departments will reduce their inefficiencies and increase productivities, And so under-employment and unemployment will reduce.
