Khesari daal grows like weeds and has toxins which causes serious visible neurological diseases like paralysis in 3% to 5% population, and causes mind problems like "chakker , fainting, depression" in a much larger population. The daal was banned by many kings in passed, and was allowed ONLY during famine times.

It was completely banned in 1961.

But ban was lifted in year 2015
