Normally, a higher unit of measurement will be 1000 times smaller unit. But hectare is 10000 sqmt and not 1000 sqmt. why?
.
Take units like kilogram, kilometer, kilowatt etc. They are all 1000 times the smaller unit namely gram etc
.
But when it comes to measuring land, sqmt is basic unit and next is hectare which is NOT 1000 sqmt but 10000 sqmt . why?

And pls rote this in your head --- 1 acre = 4000 sqmt . And 1 sqmt = 10 sqft and 1 sqyard = 9 sqft . And these are approx numbers.

And pls CALCULATE now and rote 1sqkm = how many sqft? 1sqkm = how many acres?

(Added after 2 days - the reason is - if hectare is taken as 1000 sqmt, then side of the square becomes 33.33 meters. So if we want a larger unit of area in which the larger unit of area is some 10-power multiple of 1sqmt and the sides of the square it denotes is also a 10-power multiple of 1 meter, then we have to take larger unit as 100 sqmt or 10000 sqmt . Now 100 sqmt is too small. And so unit of 10000 sqmt became a natural choice).

Land plays important role in politics. So pls rote all measurement conversions of land.

Now following is NOT related to politics, but a good point to know -
.
Normally, large unit is intergral multiple of smaller unit. eg 1 km = 1000 meters etc and multiple is factor of 10.

But when it comes to time, we have 1 year = 12 months, 1 month = 30 or 31 days, and 1 year = 365.24 days, and we have 1 day = 24 hours, and 24 hours = 60 minutes and 1 minute = 60 seconds.

Why are ratios in timeunits not multiples of ten?

(Ans added after 2 days --- thats because day and year are two natural units and these to units are NOT nice multiples of each other. Day is unit defined by sunrise and next sunrise. And year is time unit defined by one summer to next summer (or one winter to next winter). And these two units are NOT good multiples of each other. Now day was divided into 12 parts and not 10 parts, because dividing circle into 12 parts is easy, while dividing circle into 10 parts is NOT easy !! And dividing circle into 16 or 32 parts is also easy. So hour could have been defined as 1/24th of a day or 1/32th of a day. i dont know why 1/24 was chosen over 1/32).

Next to divide hour into minute, again dividing circle into 60 parts is easy while dividing circle into 100 parts is NOT easy. So so 1/60th of hour was natural choice for next small unit and so on).
