However, when it comes to weapons that rely on proprietary software and complex algorithms, India has to keep its cards close to its chest. It cannot afford to buy systems whose kill switches, or disabling codes, are with foreign suppliers. Such things have happened before. During the Falklands war of 1982, Margaret Thatcher reportedly bullied the French president to reveal the kill switches of French-supplied Exocet missiles that the Argentines were using against British warships, and disabled the Exocets. India cannot take such risks.

Not only France did not sell more Exonet missiles as they had promised, they stopped Argentina from getting missiles from other countries such as Peru and also refused to service them. And many missiles fired after first few did not work properly. Because French had sold kill codes to British.

Last September, Israeli jets bombed a suspected nuclear installation in northeastern Syria. Among the many mysteries still surrounding that strike was the failure of a Syrian radar—supposedly state-of-the-art—to warn the Syrian military of the incoming assault. It wasn’t long before military and technology bloggers concluded that this was an incident of electronic warfare—and not just any kind.
Post after post speculated that the commercial off-the-shelf microprocessors in the Syrian radar might have been purposely fabricated with a hidden “backdoor” inside. By sending a preprogrammed code to those chips, an unknown antagonist had disrupted the chips’ function and temporarily blocked the radar.
That same basic scenario is cropping up more frequently lately, and not just in the Middle East, where conspiracy theories abound. According to a U.S. defense contractor who spoke on condition of anonymity, a “European chip maker” recently built into its microprocessors a kill switch that could be accessed remotely. French defense contractors have used the chips in military equipment, the contractor told IEEE Spectrum. If in the future the equipment fell into hostile hands, “the French wanted a way to disable that circuit,” he said. Spectrum could not confirm this account independently, but spirited discussion about it among researchers and another defense contractor last summer at a military research conference reveals a lot about the fever dreams plaguing the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD).

Thea above article says that French radar manufaturers had used a CPU which had bug and Isareli found it !!! Well, reality was that a CPU was trojan was used and then French sold the trojan activation codes to Isralies !!!

And issue is NOT France. Weapons from any damn country will have such killcodes. eg Russia had planted killcodes in missiles that Russia had sold to Iraq. And when Gulf War started, Russia sold those killcodes to USA and Israel !!!

And FDI based make in India does NOT reduce the problem even by 1%. Because all complex components are all imported in these make in India weapons !!

Solution is to print law-drafts which will reduce inefficiencies of India's factory owners. Which law-drafts. Law-drafts such as RTR , JurySys, wealth tax, referendum, and so on. here too, SoMoKe and SoMoke-andhbhagats have all opposed all these law-drafts !!!

So finally, activists need to decide whether they want to support SoMoKe's "import all weapons" line or whether they want to promote the law-drafts that will reduce inefficiencies of Indian factory owners.
