Rahul Arya Ballari Karnataka:

Over the past few days, more and more andhbhakts are sharing posts about the covert-op across the LoC that supposedly killed 20 terrorists. Here's a short analysis. I'm no military / warfare expert, but the more you think about it, the more it seems that this whole news is fake. Please feel free to comment.
.
According to a few articles published in online web-portals, 2 helicopters flew across the LoC. Each helicopter carried 18-20 paratroopers. They killed 20 terrorists, managed to injure 200 more and then they were airlifted and bought back to India.
.
First things first. A covert operation (a mission that is not officially acknowledged) is sanctioned when a country wants to attack / take out their enemies in another country and at the same time, maintain deniability; to avoid a full-scale war. Such operations relies heavily on "Stealth". In simple terms, Stealth means "staying undetected". So both the soldiers and their helicopters (or other birds) would have to be stealthy; in other words, they need to get in, accomplish their objective and exfiltrate without being detected. In such missions, the "element of surprise" is everything. Why stealth? As the soldiers are behind enemy lines (or in military terms, in hostile territory), the enemy vastly outnumbers the covert-unit. The enemy would literally have unlimited weapons and ammunition whereas the covert-unit would only be able to carry limited weapons and ammunition. If there is an all-out confrontation with the enemy, then the mission will almost always result in the death or capture of the covert-unit, exposing the country that supported them and it will be termed as an "act of war".
.
Coming to the mission that supposedly killed 20 terrorists: This is what one of the article says "Two units of the elite 2 Paras comprising 18-20 soldiers flew across the LoC in the Uri sector in military helicopters and carried out an operation that killed at least 20 suspected terrorists across three terror camps in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK)."
.
The area surrounding the LoC is heavily guarded. It would be almost impossible for helicopters to enter into PoK undetected. And they would be fired upon as soon as they are detected. Modern heat-sensing missiles strike their targets (in this case, helicopters) even if the helicopters change their direction. The missiles follow the helicopters and destroy them. So how did the helicopter avoid them?
.
The article says "flew across the LoC in the Uri sector in military helicopters". This is ridiculous. When a covert operation is planned, one of the most important aspects is the "flight path". No country will send helicopters right over the border as this will become direct evidence that the helicopters came from that country. In such covert ops, the flight path is very long, goes over other countries and never the direct route. Eg. Israel destroyed Syria's nuclear reactor in 2007. Israel didn't just fly over the border even though they are neighbours. They flew over the Mediterranean sea, then over Turkey and finally entered Syrian airspace; and after completing their mission, they exited using the same flight path. To say "flew across the LoC" is nonsense.
.
The article further says "carried out an operation that killed at least 20 suspected terrorists". Another nonsensical statement. Covert operations are carried out to take out a specific target (or HVTs = High Value Targets = heads of terrorist organisations or their financers etc) or to rescue hostages. There is no third scenario (they are sometimes used for collecting intel (information) from enemy territory; but it falls under "reconnaissance" and not termed as covert-ops). So to say "20 terrorists were killed" is stupid because to kill these many terrorists, the paratroopers would have to engage in a violent firefight which would mean that they no longer have the advantage of "element of surprise". The whole unit would either be killed or captured. Covert units are not used for such "kill 20 terrorists" missions. If the target is so big and involves huge firefights, then why send the covert unit in the first place? Why not bomb them using fighter jets or drones??!!!!
.
Would it be wise to send covert units so near to the LoC where the Pakistanis have many many weapons like tanks, missiles etc? No one would ever sign-off on such a suicidal mission.
.
It's very clear that this article is nonsense. Many andhbhakts have been sharing this post in the hope that it would silence all anti-NaMo people. They only ended up making a fool out of themselves. THINK & ANALYSE before you share a post !!!!
.
Added later:
.
One of the most critical aspects of covert operations is "exfiltration" (leaving the enemy territory and heading to a secure location). When the covert unit completes their objective, they head to the extraction point where a helicopter will airlift them and get them to a secure location.
.
Some bhakts are saying that "paratroopers were airlifted back to India". This means that the paras jumped from the helicopters, and then these helicopters went to a different location (extraction point) waiting for the covert units to return. Or they were in the air for all that period and approached the extraction point only at the very end. Either way, they managed to remain undetected for so long !!!! Well as explained above, killing 20 terrorists and injuring over 200 cannot be done by remaining stealthy. Once such a huge firefight begins, nearby army units will converge and attack the unit. The covert unit would have to escape the Pakistani forces (who would be chasing them), get to the extraction point, board the helicopters and make it back safely to India !! The Pakistanis can use RPGs (Rocket Propelled Grenades) to bring the helicopters down. And other heat-seeking missiles too.
.
Too many false claims.
