Why did Jurors in USA opposed Slavery while Jurors in Greece supported slavery?
.
Greek states (back then Greece wasnt one country) started Jury System in 800 BC. And almost all Jurors supported slavery.
.
But in USA, in northern states, Jurors started opposing slavery. So much so, that when slave owners bribed Federal Senators to pass Fugitive Slave Law, the Jurors started giving verdict against the law. FSL = Fugitive Law stated that "if a slave runs away from state where slavery is legal (say Virgina) to a state where slavery is illegal (say New York) , then the policemen of destination state will arrest the slave and hand it back to the state policemen where the slave came from". The citizens in Northen States killed this law using two steps. The police chiefs who used to arrest the slaves and send them back without Jury Trial were threatened with expulsion !!! SO police chiefs started giving Jury Trial to arrested slave. In the trial, the Jurors used to say say "the arrested ,an is a legally free man, and so the law doesnt apply on him" !!!
.
So here, please note --- the slave owner was almost always a white man, and 12 Jurors too would be almost always all whitemen, and slave would a black man,. But all 12 Jurors used to side with blackman and give verdict against the white slave owner. Apparently, racisim didnt show up, or may be,m it was absent.
.
So question I put is --- why did Greek Jurors from 800 BC to 100 BC supported slavery , while US Jurors in northern states started opposing it from as early as 1810s. ?
.
Also, please note that Jurors in southern US states did support slavery till Northern States forcefully ended it.
