The tomato supply line from Andra Pradesh to metro is cut to ARTIFICIALLY raise tomato prices !! So tomatoes in AP are rotting and in cities, people end up paying Rs 80 per kg !! And the paidmedia is helping is the price rise.
.
Please see link in first comments. Its Sunday Gaurdian news that farmers in AP are not getting buyers for tomato even at price of Rs 8 per kg in wholesale Tahsil market !! They are feeding tomatoes to cattle. And in metro, tamatoes in wholesale markets are Rs 50 and retail price is Rs 80 to Rs 100. The reason is NOT lack of transport.
.
The reason is --- interstate vegetable trade needs licences !! Even purchase from farmer in quantuty above Rs 40 kg needs license !! The interstate license is issued by State\Central Govts.
.
The owners of license are DELIBERATELY not buying tomatoes so that prices escalate. And paiemedia is paid to over report price rise, so that customers become willing to pay. let me explain.
.
I buy my own vegetables (as I am single). I went to market and expect tomato for Rs 40 per kg. And if sellers says "Rs 50 per kg, I will buy it, but if seller says Rs 80 per kg, then I will get shocked and I will postpone buying. But if I have read a news in morning that tomato are Rs 80 kg, then I have mentally prepared myself for that price, and I will buy it anyway.
.
So paidmedia prepared person to pay higher price, and shortage is created ARTIFICIALLY to actually raise that price. During UPA days, Pawar was kingpin, and now Gadakari would be managing it. And if AAP comes, it will be Jindal. People change, names change, actions will remain same.
.
And thats why no big newspaper reports that interstate trade restrictions should be removed !!! And no political party, be Congress or BJP or AAP demands removal of interstate trade restrictions !!
.
All in all, there is NO shortage of tomatoes. It is 100% artifical --- the big nterstate traders who have licence are not buying from AP so that other states face shortage. Solution is simple - remove all licensing requirements from food sale and trading, except registration and reporting
