When you look at colossal amount of time and energy spent , or rather wasted, to take simple decisions, I wonder if we at all stand chance against USA or even China who wish to break India. eg if BJP-members had ordered or requested BJP-district heads over SMS to declare NaMo as PM candidate (or whichever person they like), then decision could have come in 2-3 weeks without all this media-fun-fare. But even simple SMS sending didnt happen !!
In USA, since 1900s, there are regular process so called as Primaries to decide President candidate as well as candidates for ALL elected posts such as Governor, Senator, Representatives, state Senators, state reps, Mayor , judges, police chiefs, public prosecutors etc. In primaries, members decide the candidates via voting. And US Govt hasnt made any such laws --- the parties are following them on their own. Every now and then, the process of candidate selection happens in predictable way without fun-fare.
And in India, even after 70 long years, no party has been able to put such primaries in place !! And informal primary could have been done if members of BJP had sent request/order to district-heads via SMS declaring their choice of PM-candidates. Most BJP members I spoke to liked the suggestion. But then they all came back telling me that "districts heads have said NOT send such SMS, and some district heads threatened members with expulsion if such SMS were sent " !!! In Congress, one high command decides everything (and again this isnt true, and situation is much worse ---- it is MNC-owners who decide everything and Sonia only puts her stamp what they decide). And in BJP it is some oligarchs who decide. And we can only pray that those oligarchs arent dependent on MNC-owners and person on whom these oligarchs depend have roots in India. BJP is far less bad than Congress, but nowhere close to American parties where members have far far more say. And the fact that BJP-members were scared of sending requests/orders to District-heads via SMS on who should be PM candidate is also appalling.
And before AK-bhagats run to call AAP as "democratic", let me state their ugly facts. AAP has same high command structure. The members have to chose from 5 chamcha approved by top committee as MLA-candidate. The members cant appoint anyone they like !! And on party stands on issues, when core committee wants to decide, they immediately give decision. And when they want to evade the issue , they day "janata will decide or members will decide !!" Arvind Gandhi opposed the proposal to create a website where AAP can register their YES-NO via SMS !! Why? Because he didnt want any such democracy inside Party. eg on RJB issue, Arvind Gandhi didnt say "let Janata decide or let members decide". He immediately decided that "we will wait for Supreme judges to waste another 100 years". And when he wanted to delay RTR-MP-draft, he said "core committee and policy group will decide" and didnt say let members decide RTR-MP-draft. And when he wanted to evade the issue putting all land ownership records on net, he said "janata will decide" without giving any procedure of how 80 crore voters can register their decisions. Amd when many members suggested that one possible procedure is that we request 80 crore voters to send orders to MPs via SMS, he opposed it !! So no, there is only inner party democray talks here. Otherwise, AAP is just like Praja Rajyam Party.

Anyway, congratulations of NaMo being PM candidates. And decision was taken in extremely time consuming and enemrgy consuming way. Something which could have been done in 2 weeks, if all BJP members had sent SMS, took long months and took away far more energy. Such inefficiencies , if they go on and on and on , it is unlikely we can deter USA or even China from breaking India .

Any finally, my stand on this issue. I had ordered my MP via SMS to make NaMo PM of India in feb-2013 . And in may-2014, I will mostly re-send that SMS to my new MP. But I am not BJP supporter , as BJP has always opposed Right to Recall PM draft, RTR MP draft, RTR Supreme judge draft, Jury System , wealth tax, inheritance and all laws I am trying to get passed. So for me, this whole thing is one internal matter of BJP, on which I dont have locus standi .
I will request ALL 80 crore voters of India to order MPs via SMS to make NaMo PM today. Or whichever person who think is least unfit or best fit --- be Mayawati or NiKu or SSC or Raman Singh . And you can send more than person's name with preference. Lets not wait till may-2014. Pls send the order to MP via SMS today.
