Petrol , LPG can be obtained from coal using

coal + steam --- > CO + H2 ---> hydrocarbons ---> petrol + LPG

Imo, bharat should this process and completely end crude import

Its carbon inefficient ie releases TWICE more CO2 compared to obtaining petrol from crude oil

But given that percapita usage of petrol is low , we will be still be way way below US / Europe
