Simulate it now:

A doorway is not measured in metres. It is measured in meetings.

Two streams sharing one opening spend the same strip of floor on a pair of people facing each other. Each head-on pair is a body-width that cannot be used by anyone else: one person waits, the other waits, and the gap is occupied twice for a single crossing. That is counterflow interference. Throughput is not “width times walking speed.” It is leftover width after opposing occupancy is subtracted. A wide two-way hole can carry less than the same total width cut into two one-way halves, because the mixed hole keeps paying that meeting tax.

Splitting the opening alone does nothing. Two mixed doors are just two smaller knots: same collision, same stop-and-sidestep, same queues backing into both rooms. The control is the split. The thing that works is direction. Assign each half a single heading and opposing occupancy in the mouth falls toward zero. The knot dissolves, contact stress drops, and the same metres start moving people instead of holding them.

That is why stations, stadiums, and Friday prayer doors mark enter and exit. Not manners. Capacity.
