Aryabhatt , Bhramagupt invented what we now call as 'place value face value decimal' system in very very basic arithmetic.

Without them, maths would have never moved past geometry and some logic. No advanced topic like calculus, coordgeo , trigo , number theory etc would have come. And engineering would have remained confined to some roads , buildings and some chemistry. Almost all engineering and science we see after 1200 ad became possible only because of 'placevalue facebalue decimal' system invented by two bharatiya mathematicians and their colleagues we dont about.

Now why west using their work could build so much maths science engineering weapons etc while east could not. Imo, reason is --- jurysys and subsequent changes thar jurysys brought - elected judiciary, multielections, recalls, referendum, mass weaponizations and so on. The fundamental role in democratization came due to jurysys.
