Situation of bottom 90% in general has been improving across pass 5000 years. Oppression , slavery reduced across time in general will some ups and downs. And free speech increased as a whole.

Imo, the biggest improvement came due to gathering and JurySys. gathering concept may look trivial in nature but ensuring gathering happens and doesn't wither away is not easy !!

But imo, there is one more very important thing that vastly improved strength of commons and reduced suppression

Imo, it is lets put it -

3 is three
2 is two
8 is eight
9 is nine

but 3289 = three thousand two hundred eighty nine !!

Imo, this played very very imp role in reducing oppression on commons !!!
