Assembly of experts is apex body. 88 members- 8 year term. Elected by people. Only a maulvi or an islamic scholar approved by guardian council can become candidate !!! So only about 5000 are eligible to contest. That too, before elections, many may get disqualified. So now clerics contest in elections and people vote !!!

These assembly of 88 elected clerics, in election where only 5000 decided by guardian council can contest - elect supreme leader.

Suprme leader appoints chief judge who appoints 6 guardian council members and supeme leader appoints another 6 guardian council members !!!

So essentially, an oligarchy of some 100 - 200 people is controlling all apex bodies of Iran.

The lower house ie Majalis has members Elected by people. But not anyone can be candidate. He must have masters degree. A person has to apply to become a candidate. And guardian council decides whether he can be candidate or not.

Oligarchy controls all crude oil. So by its money, they manage to ensure all are fed. And less than 2% people know English. So very few know about works of Thomas Paine and Berzua Democracy in usa. And very few try to create Thomasist Democratic alternative. And those who try are disqualified and or suppressed.

All in all, this near zero democracy created a low innovation society. And they are paying the price.
