Gujarat dec-2017 assembly election needs 70000 EVMs. EC says that EC has 87000 EVM-VVPAT. But EC as on 6-jul-2017 hearing refuses to commit that it will use EVM-VVPAT in ALL booths in Gujarat Assembly elections. WHY NOT? Because EC says that "some" of the 87000 EVM-VVPATs have "some" "glitches" !!!

(And in dec-2017, Himachal Pradesh with some 15000 booths may also have elections. So EC can cover all Gujarat + Himachal booths)

And how many have glitches? EC may or may not disclose it in next hearing !!!

In 1989, I said that EVMs are nonsense. And in 2011, I said that EVM-VVPAT are bigger nonsense.
.
Even since this VVPAT nonsense came in 2011, many engineers and ex-engineers (such as myself, I am ex-hardware-engineer, last hardware project I did was in 1994) have been saying that 10 lakh VVPAT is an engineering nightmare given the mechanical problems printers face.

The mechanical problems are low if printer is regularly used. But if a printer is left unused for months and years, then chances are high that it will face serious random mechanical problems when used after months and years. And so almost all booths with need a spare printer (eg all retail shops keep at least 1-2-more spare credit card printers). Or EC will need several 1000 vans, easch van with 100-200 VVAPTS which runs to booth moment a booth report a mechanical problem in VVPAT printer.

And so to cover 10 lakh booths, we need 10 lakh VVPAT and many lakh more spare VVPAT or vans.

And EVM costs Rs 10000 to CEC and VVPAT costs Rs 50000. And thats because BEL doesnt charge actual cost. If actual cost is taken, the cost is almost twice !! And some 15 days before election, BEL technicians have to come and download party symbol logo with serial numbers as in candidate list into VVPAT printer and ....

IOW, EVM is NAREGA for engineers and EVM-VVPAT is 5-star NAREGA !! Just as GST is NAREGA for accountants and tax lawyers.

Despite all this REAL TECHNICAL points, EVM-andhbhagats --- who have now evolved and graduated , and have become EVM-VVPAT-andhbhagats --- keep cheerleading for EVM-VVPATs.

In March-2017, EC said that EC will use EVM-VVPAT in all 70000 booths in Gujarat. I met many leaders and told many leaders that this press statement of EC is nonsense as most VVPATs are broken beyond repair.

So some leaders went to Supreme Court and ask SCjs to ask CEC to give written affidavit that EC will use VVPATS in all 70000 booths in Gujarat. And after5 months of circus in Supreme Court, EC says that "some of these EVMs have glitches" !!
.
Now lets wait for next hearing to see how many of of these 80000 EVMs have glitches. And how many dont have glitches or not tested for glitches.

But circus is getting sicker and sicker everyday.

So lets all wait for next episode of circus. Next episode of circus will be shown on around 3-aug-2017. On 3-aug-2017, CEC will tell us how many EVM-VVPAT have glitches and how many dont have glitches (or were untested?).
