Gorkhaland issue : I support separate State for Gorkhaland -- the new state should have some 90% of land of the 11 (?) districts they have demanded. The issue should be decided by nationwide TCP (TCP = referendum). My vote will be - YES.

( Darjeeling district should be divided into two - southern 25% and northern 75%. The southern 25% should stay with WB and northern 75% should go in the new State. Bhaktinagar District too should be divided into two - southern 50% should stay with WB. And like all, this is my personal opinion. Not party stand etc and I dont represent all recallists).

And the new state should be named as Darjeeling State and not Gorkhaland. But thats a minor issue.

India had organized states on linguistic lines. The demand for Gorkhaland is old - started in 1907 and has been there since 1951. So far, things could be controlled and evaded. But now evasion is neither possible nor good.

Gorkhaland districts is being flooded with Bangladeshi infiltrators and Bangladeshi refugees. Refugees are more than welcome, but refugees must be given residency in any part of India, except North East, except West Bengal, except crowded cities like Mumbai / Delhi / Surat etc and except coastal areas. Thats because these areas have taken more refugees than they can accommodate. The Bangladeshi refugees are welcome to stay in India, but any in district except above.

These 11 - 12 districts that Gorkhaland people want were Gorkha majority in 1951. Today, due to coming for infiltrators and refugees, in many parts, Gorkha are NOT in majority. So "majority opinion if districts " in such case is nothing but cheating.

Govt of West Bengal and Govt of India is NOT interested in stopping infilitrators and also not interested in seeing that refugees get shifted to districts across India. In such case, if Gorkha people stay with West Bengal, then very soon, whole Gorkhaland will become Bangladeshi infilitrator majority !! This is not good for any district in Gorkhaland nor good for India.

Also, they only want separate State. There is no feeling or demand for separate nation. So there is NOTHING anti-national in their demand. Nor are Gorkha asking or planning for evacuating non-Gorkha after getting separate state. So their demand or position is NOT anti-people either.

At the end of the day, a Nation is everything, and State is ONLY an administrative unit. Difference of language was vital and is vital even today. And so separate demand for Gorphaland is justified.

So finally, the issue should be decided by nationwide referendum, and each Sarpanch / Corporator too should be asked to vote (though in final round, only votes of voters should be counted). My vote in NATIONWIDE referendum will be YES for Gorkhaland (after giving some southern 10% of land they demand to WB). Each voter can decide on his own in the referendum.

(aside - later Gorkhaland and Sikkim with majority in referendum in both states, may combine. But all that is a later issue and NOT important issue for now).
