Was Jesus vegetarian?
.
Many Christian dont eat meat on Good Friday but they can and do eat fish. And some dont eat meat on ALL Fridays , but can eat Fish !!! Please google on "Christians meat fish Friday" for more.
.
Central question is - why?
.
The official reason is given is --- it is linked with crucification of Jesus Christ. Well, fine. Say Jesus was crucified. But then whats wrong in eating meat on that day?
.
The real answer is --- the Jesus and his early followers were practicing and preaching vegetarianism !!! But in harsh deserts, due to lack of all fruits and vegetables, full vegetarianism can cause nutrition problems. Also, cows are difficult to maintain in desert, and sheep / goat milk is also expensive. And sheep / goat milk is not as complete diet as cow milk. So in absence of cow milk, absence of variety of fruits and vegetables, if one stops eating meat, then eating fish becomes necessary, So fish eating was "allowed".
.
So most people knew Jesus and his early followers as supporters of vegetarian diet (+ some fish) and someone who opposed killing animals for food.
.
So when Jesus was crucified, a large number of early followers of Jesus decided to practice his diet one day a week or one day a year. And later this became a tradition.
.
The Catholic Church came much later into existence. They kept this tradition, or may be, they had to keep this tradition. But they somehow covered up the fact that Jesus had preached and practiced vegetarianism. One reason can be that Church promoted a belief that "man is superior than all animals". Vegetarianism doesnt negate it, but promotes a belief "that man is superior , but other animals' lives also matter". And may be, Church didnt like this notion. And so chuch covered up Jesus inclination towards vegetarianism.

And many say that Jesus got idea of becoming vegetarian from early Jain / Buddhist / Hindu saints he had met. Chandragupta Maurya had become Jain Saint, and had sent several Jain saints across world to preach Jainism. And so did Ashok later --- he had sent several Buddhist saints to all parts of the world. Some saints met Jesus, and Jesus saw merits in their beliefs of reducing animal slaughter. While some say that Jesus had traveled to India.
.
Whatever may be the case --- whether he travelled to India, or Indian saints had traveled to middle east, whether Jesus became vegetarian (+ some fish) on his own or due to information he got from Indian saints . --- there are several indications that Jesus was vegetarian.
