Difference between sending order to MP via SMS (1) with URL \ URN and (2) without URL \ URI--- is same as difference between 145 years and 50 days !! And difference between Difference between sending order to MP via SMS (1) with URL and (2) with URN is same as difference between real Rs 1000 notes and potentially fake Rs 1000 note !!!

Pls dont ruin "order your MP via SMS" campaign by sending SMS without URL. It is almost as bad as slogan shouting. Let me explain how.
.
Each MP has about 17 lakh voters with him. The whole campaign is failure if only 1 lakh voters send no matter how many SMS. In such case, without or without SMS are both dud. But say over 8 lakh to 10 lakh voters do start sending orders to MPs via SMS. Now if each voter is sending only 1-2 orders on an average, then also campaign is dud. Lets say on an average each voter is sending 20 orders to MP via SMS, without URL.

Then MP gets some 3.5 crore SMS.

Say reading each SMS needs at least 30 seconds.
.
So MP or his staff would need = 3.5 crore SMS * 30 seconds per SMS = 105 crore seconds = 105/60 crore minutes = 1.75 crore minutes = 1.75/60 = 8.75 lakh hours

Say a man works 8 hours a day . So MP would need = 8.75/8 = 1.09 lakh days.
.
Say MP and his men work all 365 days a year. So he would need = 109,00 days / 330 = about 290 man years to process all these SMS.

Say some 50% SMS were dealing with some 100 law-drafts. Then also, MP would need same 290 man years, as he needs to go thru all SMS. Or he will need at least 145 years.

Now instead, if each voter sends URL, then MP's PC can aggregate them by url and give report

URL1 = 12.0 lakh SMS
URL2 = 11.6 lakh SMS
....
URL10 = 2.5 lakh SMS
...
....
URLN = below 1 lakh SMS
.....
.
So here too, if MP wishes to processes all 3.5 crore SMS, he would still need 145 years. But to process the SMS dealing with law-drafts supported by 1 lakh or more voters , the MPs need to take print out of draft pointed by these 50-100-200 URLs and read them. Each URL can have one draft , which could be 2-5 pages. So MP has to read some 300-500 pages, which he can do in 30-40 days at most.

IOW, if SMS have URL, then MP's PC can aggregate them and give counts. And so time taken to process law-drafts demanded by majority or over 5% of voters, reduces from 245 years to 30-40 days !! The ratio of 50 days to 250 years is 2240 to 1. IOW, SMS without URL is some 2240 times more time consuming than SMS with URL
.
So now many will still say that "SMS without URL is good", a logic which says "Rs 1 is also good and Rs 2000 is also good". This is sheer nonsense. SMS without URL have zero value, as no MP can process crores of SMS and decide what majority wants.

So please DO NOT ruin the proposal by sending SMS without URL.

Why oppose shortcodes?

Shortcodes have values if MP is registering shortcodes after taking some fee. This is doable. And if MP does so, then SMS with shortcodes are better than SMS with URL. But so far, so MP does so. So shortcodes as of now, are useless.

Why are URN better than URL

As of now, URL are good enough. But as order your MP via SMS campaign picks up, URL will backfire as draft cited at URL can be tempered by owner of website such as facebook, or can be deleted by hacker or draft-writer. And so we will need to URNs. URNs are foolproof enough that even CIA cant temper it !! Please google on URN and URL . magnet links are easiest way to implement URNs. Within a few months, I will move to URNs and stop using URLs.

So all in all, please dont ruin the campaign by sending "orders to MPs via SMS" with no URL. Please make sure that YOUR SMS does have URL to the law-draft you want.
