How demand of flights (and now bullet train) is ARTIFICIALLY kept high on Ahmedabad-Mumbai route? By slowing down Shatabdi. How?
.
1. Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi often takes 40 minutes from Maninagar to Ahmedabad in its return journey. Despite this, it is NOT given stop on Maninagar !! So that passanger can exit and can take an auto riksha out !!
.
2. VAPI factor
.
Please try to book ticket from Ahmedabad-Mumbai on Shatabdi and you will almost always get a waiting list. And Ahmedabad-Vapi is always available , even at last minute !! Thats NO agent level game, but a very high traffic from from Vapi-Mumbai at 7pm. Basically, many Mumbai-residents work in Vapi as managers or owners of factiries in Vapi and they want to come back at 7pm. So they book Vapi-Mumbai tickets on daily basis 60 days in advance, and so Ahmedabad-Mumbai tickets become unavailable or waiting !!
.
Now since that status is waiting, a high profile business user will be jump to flight because he wants 100% confirmation !! IOW, vapi-mumbai traffic is artificially raising demand of flights.
.
And it is a HUGE loss to railways. Almost everyday, some 150 seats in Shatabdi from Ahmedabad to Vapi remain empty, and they get filled up only from Vapi !!!
.
Solution is simple --- start a new train from Vapi to Mumbai, and dont stop Shatabdi at Vapi, OR. allow booking from Vapi to Mumbai only on last 2 days. There are many ways. to reduce the mess.
.
3. I earlier mentioned that if Shatabdi gets tracks all across and stops only at Vadodara-Surat and not anywhere, then it can run at 120 kmhr and cover distance in 4.5 hours including 10 minute one 10 minute stop at Surat..
.
All in all shatbadi ahmedabad-mumbai can be improved to a point that ahmedabad-mumbai flight becomes almost redundent. That will be huge savings in fuel.
